Heating-induced acoustic emission (AE) signals have been detected in a
n adiabatic BSCCO-2223 tape winding. A heating-induced differential te
mperature within the winding of similar to 10 K generated AE signals t
hat were sufficient for detection. The results demonstrate, as in low-
temperature superconducting magnets, that AE is useful for detection o
f a local temperature rise in high-temperature superconducting magnets
