Abstract
Based on investigations into fluid flow through plane filter media for aerosol filtration, the flow field within and behind filter elements from pleated media was investigated. By pleating the medium gaps are c reated, through which fluid flow. The following aspects were investiga ted by experiments: (1) Measurement of pressure drop inside a gap (2) Evaluation of the local flow field inside a gap (3) Visualization of t he flow field inside a gap. An approximation method for calculating th e pressure drop was derived and used to optimize the geometry of the g ap.
