Abstract
A Brownian motion model for the energy of the ions trapped in the pseu dopotential well of a Paul trap is proposed and the exact solutions of the storage time in terms of the mean first passage time (MFPT) in th e cases of white noises and colored noises are theoretically calculate d. The relationships with the damping coefficient, noise parameters an d the energy distribution of the ions are also discussed.
