Kt. Oh et al., IATROGENIC CENTRAL RETINAL VEIN OCCLUSION AND HYPERVISCOSITY ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH-DOSE INTRAVENOUS IMMUNOGLOBULIN ADMINISTRATION, American journal of ophthalmology, 124(3), 1997, pp. 416-418
PURPOSE: To describe a patient with iatrogenically induced central ret
inal vein occlusions secondary to serum hyperviscosity from intravenou
s immunoglobulin administration. METHOD: Case report. RESULTS: The pat
ient developed bilateral central retinal vein occlusions in associatio
n with high dose intravenous immunoglobulins, The central retinal Vein
occlusions resolved when the immunoglobulins were withheld and serum
hyperviscosity decreased. CONCLUSION: Administration of high dose intr
avenous immunoglobulins ran be associated with hyperviscosity syndrome
manifested by central retinal vein occlusion.
