The dependencies of line intensity and linewidth of degenerate four wa
ve mixing (DFWM) on the crossing angle have been investigated via OH A
(2) Sigma-X-2 Pi transitions in a flame. The measured results were com
pared with the theoretical predictions and other experimental results.
It was found that the saturation effect was important and must be con
sidered. When using the DFWM method to measure the temperature, a suit
able crossing angle should be chosen and the absorption correction sho
uld be taken into account. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
