The therapy of glomerulonephritis is insufficient so far. An autoimmun
e process with production of autoantibodies and formation of circulati
ng immune complexes has been discussed in glomerulonephritis. The elim
ination of pathogenetic relevant autoantibodies and Immune complexes c
ould be important in these conditions. Immunoadsorption does selective
ly remove immunoglobulins and is more effective than conventional plas
ma exchange. Immunoadsorption can successfully be applied to patients
suffering from rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, focal and segme
ntal glomerulosclerosis, lupus nephritis and Wegener's granulomatosis.
