Results of Rheotens experiments on a commercial liquid crystalline pol
ymer melt are reported. In a nonisothermal extension of extruded filam
ents under the action of constant tensile force, we find a maximum mel
t tension at break or melt fracture stress of about sigma(B) = 7 MPa,
rather independent of extrusion speed or melt temperature. (C) 1997 Th
