Abstract
Three sites viz., (i) polluted by DBM plant, (ii) affected by mining i .e. mines and its adjacent regions, and (iii) non-polluted area of pin e forest were selected to study the impact of magnesite on some eviron mental factors i.e. soil, air and water around Magnesite and Mineral C o. Ltd. of Chandak, situated in Pithoragarh District of Kumaun Himalay a. Soil and water near the factory has alkaline pH (9.3 and 9.6). Soil organic carbon and nitrogen was very low 0.08% and 0.010% in polluted sites. Only some shrubs of Rumex hastatus and saplings of Pinus roxbu rghii were reported.
