Abstract
House sparrows (Passer domesticus) were treated with acute (10 mg/kg b ody wt) and subchronic doses (1.5 mg/kg body wt.) of mexacarbate, wide ly used in the crop fields throughout the world. A significant reducti on in liver glycoqen and alkaline phosphatase activity along with an e nhancement in total lipids and cholesterol content after acute (1 day) and subchronic (5, 10 and 15 days) treatment has been observed. Reduc tion in liver glycogen has been correlated with central nervous system and further, hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipemia have been correlat ed with impaired cholesterol metabolism.
