Ns. Paka et An. Rao, ECOLOGICAL-STUDIES OF 2 LENTIC WATER BODIES WITH REFERENCE TO CYANOBACTERIA, Journal of environmental biology, 18(3), 1997, pp. 233-244
Ecological evaluation of Cyanobacteria of a lake and pond has been car
ried out for a period of two years. Continuous blooms of Cyanobacteria
were observed in one lake whereas the other semi-permanent pond is fr
ee from these algal blooms. Both of these lentic water bodies had some
what different environmental makeup which probably accounts for the va
riation in algal density and species composition. The presence of cont
inuous blooms of Microcystis aeruginosa and Oscillatoria limosa in Sar
oor Nagar lake indicate the polluted nature of water body, and it is a
lso considered as the degree of eutrophication of the water body. The
other pond is considered as oligotrophic due to its low concentration
of nutrients and less algal populations.
