Abstract
Seventy eight psychiatric aides were administered measures to assess t heir knowledge of how to apply behavioral methods on the job and their level of occupational stress. The results revealed a significant inve rse correlation between behavioral knowledge and occupational stress. Staff members with low levels of behavioral knowledge reported higher levels of occupational stress. The implications of this result for pro viding inpatient care for people with severe psychiatic impairments is discussed.
