Abstract
The Structural Materials Centre houses one of the largest materials re search groups in Europe, One particular strength, reflecting the estab lishment's aerospace traditions, is titanium and its alloys, current a ctivity in which includes advanced production routes for fibre reinfor ced titanium matrix composites. World leading mechanical alloying tech nology allows 'clean' processing of titanium alloy powders, and this e xpertise has been used to produce a range of particulate reinforced ma terials, alloys with novel compositions, and intermetallics.
