A. Legros et al., MORPHOLOGY MODIFICATION BY INTERFACIAL CHEMICAL-REACTION IN A POLYESTER ETHYLENE-VINYL ACETATE POLYETHYLENE BLEND, Polymer, 38(20), 1997, pp. 5085-5089
A morphological study of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/polyethyle
ne (PE)/ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) ternary blends is presented. Scan
ning electron microscopy analysis illustrates that, after the addition
of a transesterification precursor (Bu2SnO), the blend forms a compos
ite droplet morphology where the PBT/EVA copolymer, synthesized in sit
u creates a boundary layer between the incompatible PET matrix and PE
dispersed phase. Electron microprobe analysis is used to localize Bu2S
nO in the PET and EVA phases, where it would be expected to favour the
formation of the copolymer at the interface. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc
