Abstract
During the winter shutdown from 1994 to 1995, the backward region of t he H1 detector was substantially upgraded. Amongst other improvements, a new calorimeter (SPACAL) and a backward drift chamber (BDC) were in stalled to improve particle detection in the backward region. A first- level trigger system was provided for the BDC which helps to suppress background tracks. This trigger system, based on fast RAM Lookup-table s, is described together with a summary of the first results from the taken data.
