J. Masere et al., NONAXISYMMETRIC AND AXISYMMETRICAL CONVECTION IN PROPAGATING REACTION-DIFFUSION FRONTS, Journal of physical chemistry, 98(26), 1994, pp. 6505-6508
Observations of steady nonaxisymmetric chemical wave fronts are report
ed for upward propagation in iodate-arsenous acid solutions within ver
tical capillary tubes. These observations confirm a recent prediction
of hydrodynamic stability theory that the onset of convection in such
fronts should be nonaxisymmetric. The nonaxisymmetric waveform reflect
s the presence of a single convective roll in the vicinity of the movi
ng front.
