The specific heats of immersion of n-hexane, lower alcohols and water
were calorimetrically measured by means of an isothermal LKB 2107 micr
ocalorimeter with the Batch-vessel and a simple charging adiabatic cal
orimeter constructed in our laboratory, with stirrer and a high-precis
ion temperature measuring module (by Eurotronics GmbH). In order to ob
tain the heats of immersion in kJ/mol, the limiting adsorption values
were determined isopiestically using a desiccator. On the basis of the
ratio of heats of immersions given by the non-polar component (n-hexa
ne) and the very polar component (water) we prove the predictability o
f immersion by means of fuzzy logic. A comparison with experimental re
sults yields satisfactory results especially within the homologeous se
ries of n-alkanes and alcohols.
