Early researchers investigating aging have often been accused of formi
ng the foundation for the belief that intelligence peaks in early adul
thood and declines steadily thereafter, a concept sometimes known as t
he classic aging curve. Documentation in this article indicates that a
t lease several early researchers on the subject were actually making
very different arguments and that they were well aware of the limitati
ons of their data.
