We present the current status of the multigap resistive plate chamber.
Our device has resistive plates made of melamine and is operated in a
valanche mode with argon-based gases with a small percentage of quench
er (CO2, isobutane, etc). It has excellent lime resolution (sigma = 1.
5-2 ns) and rate capability (> 98% efficiency at 1 kHz/cm(2)); in addi
tion, it has a long efficiency plateau and low dark current.
