Abstract
TSBB (Transmitter Station BaseBand) is one of the main subsystems of t he D-DBS system for KOREASAT. It pre-processes, compresses, packetizes and multiplexes the program and data sources, and send the multiplexe d output to RF/IF module for transmission. TSBB has the following char acteristics; video resolution of up to 720 x 480, optional usage of as pect ratio between 4x3 and 16x9, closed captioning, sind multiple lang uages (up to 4 languages). TSBB employs MPEG-2 MP @ML for video compre ssion, and MPEG-1 Layer II for audio compression. Data program is avai lable up to 2Mbps. TSBB also scrambles programs for subscription and p ay-per-view channels. In this paper, we introduce system requirements, system design and system implementation for TSBB. We also shows test results for TSBB functions which include video/audio/data broadcasting and encoder/MUX configuration, and test results for TSBB performance.
