The adequacy of various molecular models of pigment organization in ch
lorosomal light-harvesting antenna is evaluated by the criterion of th
e match in the exciton structure between model and natural antennae. N
one of the earlier models meets this criterion and, moreover, none of
them in principle can reflect the organization of an optimal antenna.
A novel molecular model is proposed for cylindrical assembly of chloro
somal pigments, which is consistent with all experimental data availab
le.
