Abstract
The effects of finite beta on the toroidal ion temperature gradient (e ta(i)) mode has been investigated by a multi-pole fluid model. Experim ental data from the Joint European Torus (JET) have been used to ensur e the relevance to experiments. The eta(i) mode is strongly stabilized by finite-beta effects well below the MHD ballooning mode stability t hreshold.
