A. Krupnik et T. Schenk, EXPERIMENTS WITH MATCHING IN THE OBJECT SPACE FOR AEROTRIANGULATION, ISPRS journal of photogrammetry and remote sensing, 52(4), 1997, pp. 160-168
A method for accurate and reliable image matching for aerotriangulatio
n is described and experimental results are reported. Most matching me
thods use small image patches because they assume that the object surf
ace around the point is planar. However, in order to increase reliabil
ity, large image patches that are more likely to contain significant i
nformation are necessary. In the method presented here, the matching i
s performed in the object space in order to minimize the geometric dis
tortion of the image patches due to the relief. As a result, much larg
er image patches can be used, which increases both the accuracy and th
e reliability. Experimental results obtained from six different datase
ts confirm these expectations. The accuracy varies between 1/5 and 1/1
2 of a pixel.
