An. Zakharov et Ns. Zefirov, TRANS-EFFECT OF AN AXIAL EXTRA LIGAND ON THE CATALYTIC ACTIVITY OF A TRICYCLIC CU(II) COMPLEX, Kinetics and catalysis, 38(4), 1997, pp. 513-519
The manner in which the chemical mature and the concentration of terti
ary aliphatic amines NR3 (R = C2H5, n-C4H9) affect the catalytic activ
ity of a square-planar Cu(II) chelate based on benzoylacetone and 1,2-
ethylenediamine in the liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexene by molecu
lar oxygen at 50 degrees C is investigated. The presence of a donor ex
tra ligand is found to cause an increase in the oxidation rate. The ki
netics and mechanism of the process are examined allowing fbr the coor
dination of a monodentate base in one of the axial positions of the co
ordination sphere of the Cu(II) ion. The extra ligand is assumed to ex
hibit a trans-effect on the catalytic properties of a chelate.
