High-pressure, low-temperature assemblages are described for the first
time in the Circum-Rhodope nappes east of the Vardar-Axios ophiolites
. These assemblages occur in Permo-Triassic metavolcanics and metapeli
tes, and include high-Si phengite and glaucophane. The estimated P-T c
onditions range from 6-7 kbar at 300-degrees-C to 8-9 kbar at 400-degr
ees-C. These nappes, together with the juxtaposed, eclogite-bearing Se
rbo-Macedonian and Rhodopian nappes, and with the Paikon blueschist-fa
cies rocks, could represent relics of an Eo-Hellenic (Late Jurassic) H
P-LT belt.
