A fragmentary but almost complete crocodilian skeleton was found in th
e Upper Callovian (Lamberti Zone) of Villers-sur-Mer (Calvados, France
). Skeletal remains, especially teeth with blunt apex, were found and
can be referred to Steneosaurus obtusidens Andrews 1909 (Crocodylia, T
eleosauridae), noted for the first time in this site. The same blunt t
eeth, belonging to this genus, are described up to the Valanginian. An
other Teleosauridae, the genus Machimosaurus Meyer 1837, and its type
species M. hugii, exists up to the Upper Oxfordian to Tithonian, and i
s only defined by its blunt teeth, similar to S. obtusidens from the d
entary and morphological point of view. Therefore the synonymy of this
species with M. hugii is proposed but a more detailed study will allo
w us to have a more precise definition of Teleosauridae having blunt t
eeth.
