The paper describes a dissipativity-based framework for the study of l
ow-frequency oscillations in power systems and for power system stabil
izer design. This framework leads to a robust controller design formul
ation, amenable to both H-infinity and QFT tools. An illustrating nume
rical example presents QFT based design for a widely used benchmark tw
o area, four machine power system.
