Abstract
In chemical and pharmaceutical industries NIR-spectrometric methods ar e used in quality control laboratories to verify the identity of produ cts and raw materials. However many analytical chemists are not sure h ow to estimate or even discuss the reliability and security of such sy stems. In this paper a simple information theoretical concept is appli ed to describe the uncertainty and other statistical properties of spe ctrometric and qualitative analytical methods in general.
