Abstract
An alternative method to traditional sandblasting was used to remove a n aging coating on the 18th Street bridge in Kansas City, Kansas. A va cuum-evacuated power tool cleaning system was used to perform the reha bilitation without requiring a full containment system or self-contain ed breathing apparatus for the workers. The method also resulted in th e production of significantly less hazardous waste. The work was perfo rmed reliably well within all regulatory standards and in a timely man ner.
