Abstract
A relativistic extension is made of methods by which intermediate coup ling amplitudes are deduced from measured energy levels and combined w ith measured lifetimes to obtain transition probabilities within a mul tiplet between two pure configurations. A procedure for incorporating the relativistic j-dependence of the radial transition integral into t he empirical data reduction is presented and applied to the isoelectro nic formulation of the 2s(2)-2s2p transitions in the Be sequence and t he 6s(2)6p(2)-6s(2)6p7s transitions in the Pb sequence.
