Abstract
Herpes stromal keratitis (HSK) is a blinding infectious disease that r esults from an array of immunopathogenic processes, including herpes s implex virus 1 (HSV-1)-specific T helper 1 (Th1) and Th2 cells, cytoto xic T cells and antibodies. As discussed here by Wayne Streilein and c olleagues, strategies designed to prevent and treat this syndrome must be au,are of the fact that the disease is multifactorial in its cause and pathogenesis.
