Y. Salamero et P. Millet, SPECTROSCOPY AND KINETICS OF RARE-GASES AND THEIR MIXTURES DURING MULTIPHOTON EXCITATION, Annales de physique, 22, 1997, pp. 97-103
The purpose of this work is to bring out the analogous behaviour of kr
ypton and xenon under multiphotonic excitation through three photons a
bsorption Excitation is acheived either on the P-3(1) state itself or
in its neighbourhood. In this latter case the excitation consists of p
opulating the dissociative 1(u)(P-3(1)) molecular state from ground st
ate dimers. It also appears that, in our experimental conditions, exci
tation is mainly achieved through absorption of a VUV photon originati
ng from the third harmonic of the incident laser beam. In the Kr-Xe mi
xture our excitation spectra bear both krypton and xenon components. T
he temporal analysis of krypton's emission filtered around 128 mm show
s the existence of an energy transfer from the Kr(P-3(1)) state toward
s a 5d xenon state through binary collisions whose collision rate is 6
,810(5) Torr(-1) s(-1).
