Abstract
The possibility that fusion produced alpha particles will drive a sign ificant amount of plasma rotation in a tokamak reactor is investigated . Orbit lost alphas and well confined alphas are both considered. Rota tion large enough to help avoid magnetohydrodynamic instabilities, or rotational shear large enough to suppress turbulence, is shown to be i mpossible.
