P. Lukac et al., PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF PLASTIC INSTABILITIES, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 234, 1997, pp. 45-51
Serrated yielding is observed in Al-Mg and Al-Zn alloys if they are de
formed at suitable strain rate at room temperature. To describe the ph
ysical origin of plastic instabilities, the critical strain at which t
he instabilities begin is investigated as a function of strain rate. T
his paper describes how a combination of tensile testing with various
experimental techniques, such as acoustic emission and resistivity mea
surements, and with a theoretical model, could help to elucidate the f
undamental mechanisms. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
