U. Lorenz et al., DISLOCATION DYNAMICS AND FRACTURE PROCESSES IN 2-PHASE TITANIUM ALUMINIDE ALLOYS, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 234, 1997, pp. 846-849
The fracture behaviour of two-phase titanium aluminides was characteri
zed by fracture toughness tests performed on chevron-notched three poi
nt bending bars. The alloys investigated had compositions and microstr
uctures which are currently being considered for engineering applicati
ons. The paper considers the effects of microstructure and crack tip p
lasticity on the crack growth resistance. The reliability of the mater
ials was assessed by ranking toughness data in Weibull plots and consi
dering the anisotropy of the crack resistance. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scien
