Ternary compounds SmNi2Sn2 and Sm2Cu2Sn2 were investigated with the X-
ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and electric resistivity meth
ods, as well as using tile Sn-119 Mossbauer effect under the applied m
agnetic field. Magnetic susceptibilities of these compounds show the C
urie-Weiss behaviour in the temperature range from 15 K to 280 K with
the enhanced values of the temperature independent term chi(0). Both r
esistivity and magnetic measurements indicate the occurrence of the ma
gnetic ordering in SmCu2Sn2 below T-N = 8 K. The Mossbauer investigati
ons carried out at 4.2 K under an applied magnetic field of up 6 T ind
icate a more complex magnetic structure and a considerable anisotropy.
SmNi2Sn2 remains paramagnetic down to 5 K.
