Abstract
This paper investigates the utility of reduced-equation methods(1,2,3, 4) for performing flash calculations in compositional reservoir simula tions. Only the IMPES formulation is considered. We find that the redu ced-equation methods offer no significant improvement over methods alr eady used(5,6), which work well for reservoir simulation where the fla sh must be closely coupled with the solution of the pressure equation and where a good initial guess is generally available.
