Abstract
Insulin and growth factors elicit rapid increases in protein synthesis by stimulating mRNA translation. PHAS/4E-BPs, a recently discovered f amily of eIF4E-binding proteins, appear to play a key role in this pro cess, as well as in the control of cell proliferation.
