The purpose of this paper is to present main findings of hood research
conducted so far in Bangladesh. The paper emphasizes unconventional f
indings and points out how some of these findings differ from the popu
lar perceptions regarding some important aspects of flooding. The avai
lable studies clearly suggests that research into the impact of floodi
ng on human settlement and other relevant aspects is much less develop
ed in Bangladesh than the body of literature focusing on human adjustm
ent to flood hazard. The paper identifies flood research gaps in the c
ontext of Bangladesh and suggests a new arena for future research. (C)
