Ym. Tsipenyuk et al., GAMMA-ACTIVATION ANALYSIS OF NITROGEN SOLUBILITY IN ALUMOSILICATES ATHIGH-PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 217(2), 1997, pp. 261-265
A solubility of nitrogen in natural basalts and synthesized albite at
1250 degrees C and 3 kbar was studied by gamma-activation method based
on the reaction N-14(gamma,n)N-13 with radiochemical separation of ni
trogen by high-temperature extraction at 1800 degrees C. Detection lim
it of 0.2 mu g in the samples of 15-20 mg weight is obtained. The inve
stigation originated from the study of processes of accumulation and r
edistribution of nitrogen in rock-forming alumosilicate melt of the Ea
rth mantle. The dependence of nitrogen solubility on the oxygen volati
lity and pressure were obtained (within 1-3 kbar in the presence of IW
buffer [iron(Fe)-wustite(FeO)]) and NNO (Ni-NiO), and essential effec
t of the composition of the initial matrix was found. Special attentio
n was given to standards, background, interference reactions, reliabil
ity and accuracy of the results.
