A therapy-resistant skin lesion at a fore paw of a domestic cat was di
agnosed as a catpox infection by the means of a pathohistologic examin
ation of skin biopsy specimens. After treatment with paraimmunity-indu
cers and antibiotics the paw healed completely after six weeks. Differ
ent courses of disease, possibilities of diagnosis and therapy are dis
cussed. The importance of catpox infection as a zoonosis as well as th
e duly of notifying for the veterinarian is pointed out.
