Abstract
A high brightness rf gun for the VUV FEL at the TESLA Test Facility is under construction at DESY. Besides challenging beam parameters a hig h duty cycle of 1% is demanded which requires a powerful cooling syste m. The rf and the mechanical design of the gun cavity and a new symmet ric input coupler are presented. Simulation results and the emittance budget of the gun are discussed.
