Abstract
The saturation dynamics of a high gain single passage FEL is reproduce d by means of an analytical model based on Bloch-type equations, simil ar to those governing the physics of conventional lasers. The main res ults of the paper is the proof that the evolution from small to strong signal regime can be described in terms of the logistic function, who se validity is extended to the oscillator regime.
