Thermal expansion was measured in the temperature range from room temp
erature to 950 degrees C for various compositions of the ZrO2-Ni cerme
ts containing 8 wt% Y2O3. The data can be described using the first an
d second coefficients of thermal expansion. The coefficient of linear
thermal expansion in this specific temperature range increases linearl
y with increasing Ni content, and that of ZrO2 can be obtained from th
e extrapolated values. Finally, the dependence of the average coeffici
ent of linear thermal expansion on composition of these cermets is dis
cussed.
