Abstract
One-dimensional coordination polymers of [Cd(4,4'-bipy)(3)(H2O)(2)](Cl O4)(2) . 2H(2)O (1) and [{Cd(4,4'-bipy) (H2O)(2)(ClO4)(2)}(4,4'-bipy)] (2) were synthesized, respectively, in EtOH/H2O solution through a se lf-assembly process or by the ethanothermal reaction in a sealed tube. In the presence of NLO-active organic chromophore 2-nitroaniline or N -methyl-2-nitroaniline, the solution self-assembly reaction gave two-d imensional inclusion compounds of '-bipy)(2)(H2O)(2)}(4,4'-bipy)(o-NAN )(2)](ClO4)(2) . H2O where o-NAN = 2-nitroaniline (3) and [{Cd(4,4'-bi py)(2)(ClO4)(2)}(o-MENAN)(2)] where o-MENAN = N-methyl-2-nitroaniline (4), respectively. The four compounds were characterized by FT-IR, dif fuse reflectance UV/VIS, X-ray powder diffraction and single crystal X -ray analysis. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
