Abstract
A modified most-probable number method is proposed to estimate the gro wth of sulphur oxidizing microbes in a thick suspension with freshwate r sediment. The method is based upon measurement of pH in a dilution s eries of the native suspension. A highly flexible regression model was found to describe the resulting data and to estimate the MPN in a sus pension. The method is beneficial particularly for the control of cont inuous bioleaching processes using thick slurries.
