We present new analytical results concerning Markov partitions, transi
tion matrices and decay of correlations for hyperbolic algebraic autom
orphisms of the torus T-2. A new numerical tool for the computation of
the decay of correlations for automorphism is also illustrated. The t
ool, based an Markov partitions, allows us to calculate the correlatio
n integrals for a large variety of functions and domains defined in T-
2 and for a high number of iterations of the map. It can be used to te
st other numerical and analytical methods for estimating correlation d
ecay.
