Abstract
IQENS (incoherent quasi elastic neutron scattering), Rayleigh wing and Raman measurements on two isomeric alcohols, n-pentanol and 2-methyl- 2-butanol, are presented. The presence, in both the isomers, of a ''fa st'' time in the rotational line shape of IQENS and in the Rayleigh wi ng rotational component, has been identified as the rotational jump of the methyl group. Furthermore, by a comparison of the extracted ''slo w'' relaxation times, it is possible to evaluate the second rank stati c Kirkwood correlation factor g2 for both the alcohols. Finally, analy sis of the Raman data provides an interpretation of the spectral featu res in terms of symmetric O-H sub-bands, originated by various intermo lecular aggregates.
