Abstract
The sponge Spongia officinalis from La Caleta, Cadiz, Spain, contains the new C-21 furanoterpenes furospongin-5 (1) and cyclofurospongin-2 ( 2) and the new furanosesterterpene demethylfurospongin-4 (3), in addit ion to the known terpenoids 4-11. The structures of compounds 1-3 were elucidated by interpretation of spectral data and chemical interconve rsions. Furospongin-5 (1) was weakly cytotoxic against the P-388 cell line (ED50 = 5 mu g/mL).
