Radiographic examination of any newborn foal with an angular limb defo
rmity should be performed within the first day of life, since rapid di
agnosis and treatment of this condition is the key to a successful out
come. If the condition has gone undiagnosed for a prolonged period and
the foal has been allowed to exercise freely, crushing of the cartila
ginous precursors may have occurred, resulting in permanent deformatio
n of adult bone. In this report, a series of case photographs demonstr
ate these observations, and treatment options are explored.
