A piezoelectric vibration microtome with bimorphic transducer is descr
ibed. The transducer is based on a pair of ceramic piezoelements with
dimensions 60 x 15 x 0.8 mm, which ensure an amplitude of 1.5 mm for t
he cutting edge vibrations at a supply voltage of 70 V, 1000 Hz. The m
icrotome is capable of producing slices with thicknesses of 100 mu m a
nd above for unfixed, and 10 mu m and above for fixed, nonembedded bra
in tissue.
